“Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, And I will declare Your greatness,” Psalm 145:6 (NKJV)

“All Your work shall praise You, O Lord, And Your saints shall bless You.” Psalm 145:10

On Wednesday night I had to call Ukraine. I got an e-mail from a friend of mine saying

that a lady by the name of Tanya, from a different city, had been trying to find me.

Knowing who it was, I called her even though it was past midnight (her time) in Ukraine.

She began to tell me what happened to her, crying the entire time. Tanya is 56 years

old. For the last few years she has been feeling very weak, and hasnʼt been able to do

as much as she used to. Four months ago, the doctors found 2 little tumors; one was in

her chest, and the other one was in her uterus. Each day she felt a little worse than she

had the day before. When Tanya and I were talking on the phone, she told me -with

tears in her voice- that she could hardly breathe because the tumors had grown to the

size of grapefruits. Tanya also told me, with labored breathing, that the “tumor thatʼs in

my chest is not letting me breath, and it hurts all the time.”

Tanya is from a small village and doesnʼt have a church to attend. She doesnʼt really

know how to pray. That was the reason she was looking for someone who she knew

believed in miracles…

The calling card that I used had only 20 minutes of time, so I began to pray. Tanya

started screaming so loud I could not tell if it was a good thing or not. I kept praying until

I heard the toilet flush. All of a sudden she wasnʼt screaming anymore. She told me,

“Max it fell out! Itʼs this big black demonic thing; it fell out of me it felt like I was giving

birth!” “What fell out?” I said. Tanya answered, “the tumor! I can breathe better! The

second one is gone as well! I can tell I donʼt have them in me anymore!”

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,

Because He has anointed Me

To preach the gospel to the poor;

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19

“It takes an ignorant stagnant community to see a prostitute;

It takes an informed and educated community to see a victim;

It takes a responsive and courageous community to make a difference!”

For years I have helped teams that come to Ukraine, translating for them and helping them accomplish their goals here. It is amazing to see how God uses these teams for His kingdom.

True Hope Ministries recently hosted a team of 10 people from various parts of Canada and the USA. So many Ukrainian people are always asking questions like “Why would you want to come to the Ukraine? What do you like about Ukraine?” And when the team says we’re here to help out orphans some people are saying “We have orphans? Really? Nobody even told us that…” When teams come here to Ukraine and help orphans it’s a big deal, you not only get to impact kids’ lives with teaching them about God, but you’re also encouraging Ukrainians to consider “the least of these.” And see how they can help.

People sometimes wonder, “How much good can you do in 12 days?”. A lot if you work with True Hope! Every day the entire group would board the local buses and send their time in at least 2 locations, delivering needed supplies and meeting the needs of many orphaned children. We were able to make a huge impact in so many kids lives, as well as the Directors and staff.

Max with some guys from the Dorms.

Some of the places we were able to help were: childrens TB hospitals, baby hospitals, baby orphanage, half-way house for recently orphaned children, rehab center for boys, and “Sunshine” orphanage! We were able to deliver a month’s supply of food to several locations, provide formula and diapers for babies, fix the hospital fabric press, and give soccer nets to an orphanage! Also, somehow we found time to all go to one Dormitory and completely paint the whole room and supply everything needed to start a cooking class!

Max with orphaned baby.

The kids need the love of God. Their lives are full of uncertainty, conflict, and heartbreak. When we come and give them socks, underwear, toothpaste, toothbrushes as well as sharing the love and joy of God through games and acting out Bible stories their faces show how amazed and excited they are that someone would show such kindness to these who are most rejected.

People such as yourself CAN make a difference… Join with True Hope Ministries in Ukraine for a short term mission trip, you can do it!

“I would never have survived without the ready hands and hearts of Max, Katjia, Leanne and Amanda, Arthur and Leysa, all who made sure everything was taken care of. From catching buses and taxis to walking the cobblestone streets, and perhaps more importantly translating for us!

The experience of visiting the children in the homes are etched in my memory for all time! It was a heart rending experience for me to leave behind those I hugged and kissed.”

Because of your generosity and faithful giving we were able to bless these families with a Bible, much needed clothing, shoes, and for their children.

A MESSAGE FROM MAX

Happy New 2010 Year!

May God Bless You Even More This Year!

We have had an awesome Christmas, which in Ukraine is on January 7th!

God had given me the idea to gather lots of orphans in one place for a Christmas celebration. At first I thought it was just me and not God speaking to me, but then He said it a few more times: “I want you to have as many orphans as you can find in one place for Christmas!” I asked the Lord, “Why?” He told me, “You just do it and you’ll see!” I began to get things ready. During the process of preparation, I realized that I simply could not do it, and TRUE HOPE MINISTRIES could not do it.

Then, two weeks before the Christmas event, we did not have any money for the celebration at all. We needed $4,000 at the very least, but nothing was coming in towards it. (In the end we had more than enough due to a miracle from God!!!)

I prayed again that God would help me. I knew He would have to provide if He wanted the celebration to happen.

We planned to have it at our Church of Praise because the building can hold 800 people. One of the obstacles that I was experiencing was that at this time a quarrantine had been put in place due to widespread sickness. I thought that if we had at least 400 children show up that it would be awesome, but we didn’t know if anyone would show up at all. Kids were invited from the streets and orphanages, and still only 280 kids were scheduled to show up. I thought, “Well, this is the last time I’m doing this!” Then one of the orphanages called and cancelled, bringing the number down to 240 kids, but God wasn’t through just yet!

The program began as scheduled at 3 pm, and the church was full – all 800 seats taken! Kids were standing all around, and we gave out 800 gifts that day! THAT IS GOD’S HAND! In addition to the gifts given to every orphan we also were able to give 325 gifts to grandparents, some of whom were not from our church, or who never get out because they just can’t walk. It was a miracle! Some of the orphans were crying because they had never received a Christmas gift before. Each one got a gift and candies, and afterwards there were 9 boxes of candy left over! Just like when Jesus blessed the loaves and fishes. GOD IS SO GOOD TO HIS CHILDREN!!!
