Max Fetisov - Founder and Director of True Hope Ukraine
When I was 11, I met a girl in church one day about my age. Her name was Vera (which means faith). Because I loved to make new friends, I asked if I could come over to her house to play. She quickly said, “No.” Because I’m also very persistent, I refused to take no for an answer and asked her why. She told me she had no parents and lived in an orphanage with a lot of other kids, and I couldn’t come. I wasn’t quite sure what an orphanage was and had no idea they existed in our city, but none of that mattered. Not long after, I went to visit Vera at her orphanage after school and spent the afternoon playing with her and the other kids there. I decided to tell them a Bible story I heard in church and was shocked to find out they had never heard a Bible story before. I knew I had to come more often, both to share with them all that I was learning in church and to be a friend - so that’s what I did. And I’ve been visiting orphanages ever since, taking as many people with me as are willing to come.
In 2009, True Hope Ministries started as more orphanages, boarding schools and dorms opened their doors to us and as more people expressed their desire to help. We soon created a regular schedule with teams of volunteers going into a different facility almost every day to share the love of Jesus. I have seen God fulfill many of the things I dreamed about for years and as He continues to expand our hearts and our vision I can’t wait to see what He will do in the future.
